Thanks dad! Isn't it great how many investments I've been making over the last decade in the potentially lucrative paper-bound asset market? It's a long time horizon for the payoff, but an insane ROI.

Dad
To: Chris
Make sure you keep them in good condition!

Do you have any recent. debut issues of characters that will be as big as Superman, Batman or Spiderman in 50 years. They seem to be the most valuable.

Chris
To: Dad
hahah, I'm sure that I don't.

Dad
To: Chris
You never know. Maybe there is some secondary character that recently appeared that will emerge as the next great character. Has there been a Facebook Man, Twitter Man, Digital Woman, or "The Geek" in any recent comic books you have?

Chris
To: Dad
hahhahhaa!! How about THE SOCIAL MEDIATOR!!

Dad
To: Chris
Great play on Media and Mediator!

He/she intervenes in highly dramatic virtual events. Like internet attacks on the electric grid, or corruptions of eHarmony.com that match up mismatched people, etc., or interventions that convert war games into peaceful virtual gardens. The options are endless!!

Green Lantern

Note: This is my first post in a while. If it's a little rusty (read: shitty), please keep that in mind.

I knew from the first trailer that Green Lantern was going to be, from my completely subjective nerd perspective, either the best or the worst thing I'd ever seen. I'd heard all the negative hype but then again I liked Daredevil, so I knew I was the target demographic. Walking into the movie I was (extremely) cautiously optimistic.

Walking out I was underwhelmed, to the point of disappointment. The movie wasn't terrible, it just wasn't very good. In fact it was so very much not very good as to be bad. The performances were decent, and I walked into the theater already sold on the premise and in love with the characters, but I think what did not work boiled down to a couple things:

1. Pacing

The movie seemed designed to specifically undercut any tension or excitement that was building throughout the movie. An action scene would start to ramp up, placing our characters in real danger and then... they fly away and talk about stuff for 5-10 minutes. The all-too short training montage occurs giving us a sense of what the GL corps is about and then... Hal Jordan quits and whines about it for another half hour. Even the final action sequence goes: introduction of the final villain with a fight, fly to the outskirts of the city to watch him and talk about fighting some more, slow-paced scene showing how menaing the villain is, the fight. Why not cut out the fat in the middle? We know Parallax is scary, you spent the entire movie trying to show us that. Every time the movie felt like it was going somewhere, it just stopped dead in its tracks. And don't get me started about starting the movie with 7 minutes of pure exposition.

Despite the movie being two hours long I didn't feel like I got to spend significant time with any characters or that very much got done. I wanted to see more of the Green Lantern Corps. I wanted events to feel like they logically followed one another. I wanted people to do awesome things with their rings to really show the potential of the premise.

None of those things happened. God willing, this makes a ton of money so we can see a sequel that is better-written.

2. Shallow character development
Ryan Reynolds version of Hal Jordan is a bizarre mix of Hal from the comics, who is a self-absorbed brash asshole, and Kyle Rayner, who is more insecure in the Spider-Man "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility" Mode. What we get is an "Immature adult, Insecure asshole, so if you fall on the concrete, that's yo ass fault" (Kanye West- See Me Now), whose personality seems totally incongruous. Are you all the asshole who charges in with no regard for others or the guy who is paralyzed by the fear of commitment? Can you be both?

I'm not sure if anyone changed from the beginning to the ending of this movie in any way that made sense. And I'm not sure that I cared about any of the character that I met. Also, given all the time they spent designing the Green Lanterns on OA, I would have liked to spend more time with them. I love Kilowog in the comics. In the movies I can muster apathy at best, mild distaste at worst.

Sinestro, on the other hand was fucking awesome. I want an entire movie about Sinestro. In fact I'm pretty sure thats what Green Lantern 2 would be. Please make this movie. Hector Hammond was also fairly well-done but not given any room to grow beyond his one dimension. It was also unclear if he was supposed to be creepy the entire time, or if his physical transformation was intended to transform his personality as well as his appearance. I believe they were going for the latter, but I didn't feel I got to know his character well enough pre- giant forehead to be sure.

3. Dialogue

Painful. So painful. Geoff Johnsian even. I half expected Kilowog to go "Face it, you're just too Green, Lantern" during the training session.

And the scene where Hal Jordan makes an appeal to the guardians to help earth- GAH! And then (spoiler alert), when they reject him and he begs them to at least let him go and defend his planet- something that they were in no way preventing him from doing prior to his arrival on OA... Come on guys.

4. Show, don't tell

So much talking. So little doing. I don't even know how to expound on this. (The joke is that I'm doing it too)

What did work:

1. Sinestro

I said this earlier, but if this movie was 90% less Hal whining and 180% more Sinestro being badass and a total dick, I would go to see it 3 times in theaters. Also, that scene during the credits? So many nerd-boners.

2. Final Action set piece

(spoilers on)

Most of the final action scene was pretty much crap. In fact, I thought most of the action pieces in this movie were lackluster and boring. But the end, where he was throwing Parallax into the sun (A scene that makes no sense given that this entity is powerful enough to consume entire planet-sized civilizations), was just beautiful. And the image of two jets tied to a belt, pulling him away from Parallax in space struck that perfect balance between silly and awesome. I think my affection for it grows largely out of my unadulterated love for the movie "Sunshine," but it was the first thing in the movie that made me that little kid in me sit up and take notice. Watching Parallax succumb to the Sun's gravitational pull really felt like a win

(spoilers off)

I'll grant you that OA was somewhat cool, but after seeing Asgard done so well in Thor, it really just looked lackluster in comparison.

3. Potential
I honestly believe that there are amazing Green Lantern movies waiting to be made, even if this isn't that movie. If a terrible and racist franchise about cars that transform into giant alien robots and are friends with Even Stevens can be a billion dollar enterprise, surely we can glean some success from intergalactic space cops with alien wishing rings? Green Lantern is one of my favorite characters of all time and there is so much rich history to be mined for future films. This film wasn't good, and that's too bad. But most films that make obscene amounts of money are mediocre at best, so I feel that the lack of quality can almost be viewed as an asset.

If this movie makes tons of money, which I hope to god it does (but looks like it won't), then hopefully we'll start to see studios taking risks on more obscure weirder characters. How amazing would a well-made Blue Beetle/Booster Gold movie be? Or a Thunderbolts movie? Or a 4th world movie?

Actually, leave that last one alone. I couldn't bear to see it fucked up.

My point being, if they could build up enough goodwill with this movie's success, they might be able to bring other relative unknowns to the big screen. As a comics fan, I think that would be awesome.

Art I'm Geeking Out Over

Neill Cameron, who's a pretty amazing artist, does an advent calendar every year where he draws a different type of Santa every day at the request of his readers. It's called SantaSketchFest and it is pretty great! This drawing is of (Jack) Kirby Santa, requested by my favorite internet writer of all time, Chris Sims. For those of you not in the know, Jack Kirby co/created the Fantastic Four, the New Gods, most of modern comics as we know them, etc. The type of forced perspective, elaborate costume and "Kirby Dots" in this piece are some of his trademarks. You can see the rest of Neill Cameron's Santas, most of them non-comics related, here.

As you may have heard, Tron: Legacy is premiering this Friday in theaters around the nation (JK, you definitely know this). This movie was made by Disney, which also owns Marvel. This means Cross-Promotion. Usually this is stupid and lame and it sucks. However, Tron combined with superheroes is so awesome that it overwhelms the cynicism that springs from corporations trying to exploit one type of my nerdery to make money off another type. All of the Marvel/Tron covers can be found here and, with the exception of that ridiculous Spider-Woman one, they are all awesome. Full disclosure: I'm listening to the Tron: Legacy soundtrack as I type this.

This is an amazing picture by Kid Liger of all the Lantern Corps in the DC Universe currently being featured in Brightest Day and the Green Lantern books. If you don't know what this is, you aren't reading Green Lantern. If you aren't reading Green Lantern, the fuck are you doing with your life? (things that are less awesome than they could be). Point being, it's my desktop background and I don't think it's going to change for a while. via Bleeding Cool

Does this need an explanation? Seeing as I know nothing about it where it's from, I sure hope not. Two of my favorite things, together at last. Via my buddy Jack

Red

Red, the action-comedy starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich and that chick from Weeds, is not very good. It's also not terrible. On a continuum with "Epic Movie" on one end and "Road to Perdition" on the other, I'd place it somewhere near "The Rundown"- A movie you'll watch on a Sunday if you catch it channel-surfing and you're too hungover to get off the couch. Except, "The Rundown" is a lot more fun.

When I first read the comic book "RED" by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner I thought it was mediocre. It was only three issues long and fairly decompressed, leaving me wishing that more time had been taken to flesh out the world and characters. In the book the main character is targeted for assassination, survives, sets out to figure out why, then kills everyone responsible. It was straightforward and direct. What was especially note-worthy about the comic, was the experimental way that Cully Hamner tackled "bullet-time" in sequential art. Interestingly, the weaknesses of the film have highlighted the strength of the comic in several ways.

1. Focus

The movie decided to expand the cast, and in order to do this, needed to expand the plot. Unfortunately the movie had nothing driving it forward. So, a problem would arise, which would lead to Bruce Willis deciding he needed to contact the next actor that needed to be shoehorned into the plot somehow. There was usually no logical reason for him to do so. He would then interact with them, solving the problem. A new problem would conveniently arise, time to bounce over to Helen Mirren! None of these problems serviced the plot except to shuffle the characters to the next place they needed to be. The final conflict did not feel like a culmination of everything that had come before it, but rather grew out of information introduced 15 minutes earlier in order to lend some gravitas to the final scenes.

Warren Ellis's comic, no matter what faults it had, was laser focused. This is because it knew what it was trying to say and wasn't trying to be cute (something which the movie failed at, miserably). This brings us to the...

2. Message

The message of the comic was that bureaucracies, especially government ones, do not care about you. They use people and spit them out. Despite years of loyal service, a combination of blind ambition and paperwork oversight can lead to you being the target of a wetworks team. To those in power, people are just a means to an end and numbers on a spreadsheet. It gets this across clearly and succinctly. 3 issues- setup, heighten, conclude, bloodbath.

As I mentioned before, the movie is all over the fucking place. The CIA is trying to kill them! No, wait it's the Vice-President, he's the bad guy! Actually, the weapons contractor is the real bad guy all along! The guy ruthlessly murdering people before grew a conscience for no reason! Now let's plant some evidence, frame some people, and call it a win for the good guys! Hurray!?!?!??

This movie has no idea what it is trying to say. A good twist re-contextualizes everything that came before and makes you re-evaluate character's actions and motivations. Think "The Usual Suspects" or "Memento." I think the people that wrote this script had seen these movies but were nowhere near as competent as Christopher Nolan or Bryan Singer (admittedly, a high standard). The whole thing just smacks of laziness. By which I am referring to the gaping...

3. Plot Holes

They were huge! Infuriatingly huge! Ranging from continuity errors to central plot points.

There were several smaller things that bothered me. Such as a scene where they are being chased by FBI agents shown to be literally, ten feet behind them. They get through a tunnel, the agents hot on their heels, and stop to have a fucking 5 minute conversation. This is not how time works! It's just not! And what's worse the way they end the chase is by getting in a car and driving away. This would be fine, the people chasing them had no automobiles nearby, except that in a prior scene it had been established that the government can track you anywhere with extremely powerful spy satellites that can read over your shoulder. Did they just turn them off for this specific pursuit, despite utilizing them for the previous ones? Is this a subtle commentary on the quality of government work? No. It;s not. It's just lazy scripting.

What is more infuriating is the central flaw at the crux of the plot. What is revealed during the course of the movie is that all the Olds were targeted because they were involved in an operation in the 80's to cleanup after a massacre in Guatemala. A massacre, they discover, perpetrated by the current VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES WHO NOW WANTS TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT OMGWTFBBQ!!

Here's the thing. None of the olds had any idea why they were there back in the day. None, whatsoever. And apparently no attempt was made to assess whether they had this knowledge or were planning to use it before performing highly public acts of murder. Murder which lead them to seek revenge and eventually attempt to KILL THE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!! It is also unclear why, even if they had this knowledge they had not chosen to act when he was running for Vice President, but would suddenly be spurred to action during a president campaign. I guess the evil guy assumed that they would find nothing scary about having a psycho as the 2nd most powerful person in the world, but as soon as he moved to #1 WATCH OUT!!

In other words by literally doing nothing, the CIA/Vice President/Weapons manufacturer that was pulling all the strings, could have saved millions of dollars, dozens of soldiers lives and limbs, and (spoiler alert) the VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES FROM GETTING SHOT IN THE CHEST AAAAARRRGGHH!! And, furthermore, his vaguely defined super-evil Manchurian candidate plot would have succeeded! Has he learned nothing from dealing with AARP in Washington? Don't fuck with the Olds!! They always win!

The thing is, I'm willing to forgive shit like this, I really am. I love movies with plot holes much larger than this. But the thing is they are...

4. Fun

And the movie RED is not.

The comic is! Each action scenes continue to top the one before it and the art is gorgeous. The book is far more grim in tone but you cannot stop flipping the pages because it is compelling as fuck and WHOA, did you see how that guys head just exploded!!! In the movie, I could not stop checking my watch.

It's clear the movie wants to be fun. There are dozens of attempted jokes, 3 of which I laughed at. There's a lot of travelling and each scene transition consists of a SUPER-WACKY postcard that becomes animated and then fades into the scene. There are also "hilarious" touches, like using super-racist chinese music when they go to Chinatown. All those Chinese immigrants and their MSG, AMIRITE!!

The problem is the content doesn't match the intent. It's clear that Bruce Willis and that chick from Weeds are trying but they just don't have anything to work with, so they fall flat. John Malkovich was supposed to be offputting, and he was (he always is), but it wasn't in a charming way. blahblahHelen Mirren was greatblahblahblahThe Queen blahblahGMILF. The worst performance of the movie was Morgan Freeman. If you are being paid millions to play an assassin, you need to be able to pretend you have ever punched anyone before ever. And also that you want to be there.

The movie was chock-full of lines like "Looks like we're getting the band back together" which only work if you are invested in the characters or have a working knowledge of their history and can attribute historical significance to their reunion. I could not have cared less for these characters making much of the dialogue cringe-worthy.

That being said Karl Urban is going to be an awesome Judge Dredd.

5. Action

There were two good action scenes in this movie and you saw them both in the trailer. The first is the scene where John Malkovich shoots a rocket as it's being launched at him with a revolver and hit's it right on the nose. The other is the scene where Bruce Willis gets out of the cop car as it's spinning and calmly walks forward as the rear bumper just misses hitting him. That was it. In a two-hour action comedy, there was very little of either. Blegh.

This was the strength of the comic. Balls-to-the-wall action from start to finish. Also it was cooler. Also, it was prettier. Speaking of action, this brings me to my final point...

6. Morality

The main characters, the "good guys" refrain from shooting the weapons manufacturer mid way through the movie because he is "not worth the bullet," even though this would have almost certainly ended the conflict with far less bloodshed and difficulty. It is clear he is a bad person at this point, as he has confessed to several crimes and literally referred to himself as "the bad guy." YET, they have no problem with cold murdering soldiers and policeman who are just following orders and have every reason to legitimately believe that they are doing the right thing to protect their country. What the fuck!

In the comic, this happens too. However, Ellis make no attempt to paint him as a person that is particularly moral or cares who he kills. He is a machine. Bruce Willis, on the other hand is supposed to be a "good guy." oops.

Final Thoughts

This movie basically defines mediocrity. This probably means it will be uber-successful and spawn at least one sequel in theaters before going to Direct to DVD spin-offs with lesser known aging actors whose careers are on the decline. Also, they will be made by National Lampoon and feature cameos by Betty White, who I'm pretty sure does not have action star on her resume (yet).

On one hand this makes me really sad- why the hell can't the American media consumer reward quality with more frequency? For every successful Inception, we have 5 Scott Pilgrim's that are awesome but don't make their money back. And Jackass 3D was the #1 movie in America this week. COME ON!! #thisiswhytheyhateus

On the other hand, I really like the creative team on this book. If this movie does well, maybe we will see more Warren Ellis stories turned into movies. He is one of the best writers in fiction today, so assuming future movies don't pivot 180 degrees from the source material like this one did, we are bound to see something good come out of it.

Verdict

If you were intrigued by the premise, you should buy the comic. If you are hungover on a Sunday and it's on FX, why not I guess.

Birthday Present Ideas: vol. 1

Eventually it is going to be my birthday. At that time all of you, my devoted readers (ALL of you), will be faced with a quandary. "Wow," you will think to yourselves, "I have hundreds, maybe thousands, of extra dollars lying around and I cannot decide the optimal way to spend them on my good friend Christopher."

Well, worry no more. This is the first in a series of helpful guides to things that you can buy for me. You are incredibly welcome for this important public service.

Look! Original Minimalist art featuring Galactus, the World Eater. Sure would look great on my wall next to Superman, the Mets and that fight between the Whale, Squid and T-Rex.

More Galactus? Yes but in an entirely different medium. Not only is it the coolest looking thing I've ever seen, it's like 3 feet tall! Have I mentioned I have a mantle now?

Escapist culture is great, but what about being entertained while learning important lessons about the depressing way the world is these days? The Wire: Complete Series DVD Boxed Set is both engaging and socially enriching! They're even teaching it at Harvard! What a great potential gift.

One day I'm going to have a trophy room to fill with treasures from my conquests of faraway lands, Dragon's gold, and statues made by the finest craftsmen. I will also put my sweetest Lego creations on rotating dais lit from below. And then I will get a plaque saying that I am the finest crafstman! And if anyone tries to take anything, there's going to be an Indiana Jones rolling boulder, booby-trapped arrow situation. Anyway, if any of you get super-rich and decide to be very generous come December- this child-sized Millenium Falcon is Bitchin' as all get-out.

I know you are all excited, my birthday is mere months away! But, and here is the real tragedy, you are likely squabbling amongst yourselves. "These things are so cool!" you are saying to yourselves and each other. "Reasonably priced for our budgets as well. But, who gets to purchase these things for him! THERE'S JUST NOT ENOUGH TO GO AROUND!!"

I'm here to tell you, it's going to be alright. This is only volume one! Now I'm no Kanye but I have plenty of ridiculously extravagant desires well outside my price range. Sure they are plenty nerdy, and you may not have an intuitive grasp of my tastes in that area, but that's ok! That is the entire point of this ongoing series. So get ready, there's more coming and I'm more than willing to bow to the will of my audience by presenting more things you may be interested in purchasing me.

More Dolph Lundgren Awesomeness

My friend Rambo told me that Dolph Lundgren is a Swedish Batman. From his wikipedia entry:

"As a teenager he tried judo, Gōjū-ryū and took up Kyokushin karate. Lundgren now holds the rank of 3rd dan black belt in Kyokushin. He won the European championships in 1980 and 1981 as well as a heavyweight tournament in Australia in 1982. He was also captain of the Swedish Kyokushin karate team, and was a formidable challenger at the 1979 World Open Tournament (arranged by the Kyokushin Karate Organization) when he was only a green belt.

He graduated from the Royal Institute of Technology. He has a master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Sydney (1982). He was awarded aFulbright Scholarship to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1983, but he quit after two weeks to pursue acting. He speaks Swedish, English, Spanish, some German, some French, some Japanese, and some Italian. Lundgren completed his mandatory military service in Sweden at the Amphibious Ranger School. During his service at the elite marine unit (Kustjägarna), he suffered an injury which had him reassigned and separated from his unit."

If he is Batman, he must be from Cartoon Network's 'Batman: The Brave and The Bold', because he has an awesome sense of humor. I would love to see a movie of him as a light-hearted Batman, cracking wise and beating up campy villains. Clock-King, Music Meister, Clue-Master, Gentleman Ghost, etc. My life goal is to now make enough money to bankroll this project. Who's in?

My Pitch for a Marvel 80's Rock Opera Event

This is my pitch for an 80's Rock Opera Marvel Event, set in Modern Times. Actually I mostly just wrote the climactic scene and filled in some details. I had a lot of fun writing this, even though I recognize it isn't so much "good" as much as it is "entertaining" (I hope).

Enjoy:
The sun has gone out in the Marvel Universe throwing the world into disarray. The Sentry/Void absorbed all the Sun's energy and then jetted off to explode another 999,999 suns (in order to regain the power of 1,000,000 Exploding suns). He will have to be dealt with at the end of the story(cue: Cold As Ice- Foreigner).
There will be several scenes, apropos of nothing, of the Punisher wearing night vision and totally getting the drop on disoriented villains/looters. I don't know if this contributes to the story, but it's something I want to see anytime, all the time. This will be shown in a montage of Punisher grabbing, stabbing and otherwise silently incapacitating criminals(cue: You Shook Me All Night Long-AC/DC)
The situation has led to Daredevil being hugely important as a leader and light/heat-emitting metas highly valued, often enslaved as a resource. Anyway, the darkness leads to several humans enslaving Inhuman children who have ambient light power and holding them in cages in central park- the food distribution/survival hub in the middle of New York(cue: Sweet Child o' Mine- Guns N' Roses).

Black Bolt is enraged, how dare humans treat his people as commodities(cue: We're Not Gonna Take It- Twisted Sister). Especially since they would have gladly offered help freely. He coordinates a rescue mission where the other Inhumans teleport in, grab the children and teleport away. Once they are clear Black Bolt, standing on the New Jersey Side of the George Washington Bridge inhales deeply and unleashes a scream designed to level the entire city of New York, and likely create seismic disturbances across the entire world(cue: It's The End of The World as We Know It-R.E.M.).

We see the sound waves ripping the bridge into pieces and creating a massive tidal wave in the Hudson River as it expands outward. Suddenly everything goes silent and into slow motion. (Cue: The Final Countdown-Europe) A stage rises from the ground with speakers as tall as apartment buildings and Dazzler poised ready to rock the city of New York. Just as the intro is nearing it's end the speakers tilt straight to the sky. The sound wave hits the stage just as the song picks up. Dazzler's power turns all the sound into light and funnels it straight into the sky! Blackbolt yells again and again but is continually rebuffed by the power of Dazzler's rocking (cue: I Wanna Rock-Twisted Sister). This continues through the duration of the song until both Black Bolt and Dazzler are both visibly exhausted. She is dancing/singing/roller skating as hard as she can but isn't sure if she can take another blast(cue:Living on a Prayer-Bon Jovi). Quicksilver sees her starting to fade and realizes she needs help. He takes off as fast as he can(cue:I Ran-Flock of Seagulls). He is joined by Spitfire also running at superspeed(cue: Legs-ZZ Top), who asks "How Can I help, Oy wot wot cheerio and all that." "Distract him however you can!"

Using her superspeed, Spitfire circles behind the resting Blackbolt with her superspeed and, using her vampire enhanced strength, flings Medusa far away. The fatigued Blackbolt doesn't notice. Spitfire, doing her best Medusa impression, seductively reaches out to the collapsed Blackbolt, "I've got just the thing to perk you up"

He turns around in slow motion, expecting to see his loving queen(cue:The Power of Love- Huey Lewis & the News), only to have Spitfire punch him in the face (Sound Effect:Record Scratch; Cue:Never Gonna Give You Up-Rick Astley) "You just got Rick-Rolled, Bitch!"

Blackbolt spits the blood from his lips- the sound is enough to send Spitfire flying backwards into the pylons of the bridge, knocking her unconscious. "But I just wanted to heeelllpp..." She passes out (Cue:Wake me up before you Go-Go-Wham!)

Black Bolt, collapsed from the sheer strain on his vocal chords, stands up with resolve for one final attack. Dazzler is clearly filled with self doubt and feeling very alone. She was so involved in rocking that she did not realize that all her friends have left to get her more backup, only that they are gone! (cue:Owner of a Lonely Heart-YES)

SUDDENLY, Quicksilver appears with the Power Pack, dressed a coordinated wardrobe with big hair and choreographed dance moves. (cue: The Right Stuff- New Kids on the Block). Dazzler is inspired and rises with new energy. "I just have to believe in myself!" (Cue: Don't Stop Believing-Journey).

BlackBolt unleashes a final yell, just as Living on a Prayer (reprise) reaches it's climactic scream. Dazzler grabs the mic, re-energized by Power Pack's musical pep talk, and gives it all she has but is still clearly fading. Cut to the people of New York, all wearing 80's shutter-shades and bright neon parachute pants and sweaters ripped so one shoulder is exposed cheering her on, chanting "Dazzler, Dazzler." Her dream has always been to move from the B-List to become a big star so she screams even harder, energized by the crowd. "Livin' on a PRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYEER!!"Cut away to a shot of Earth from space. The light she is generating creates a massive beam of energy that shoots off the planet like something out of Dragon Ball Z, straight into the sun- RE-IGNITING IT(Cue: Burning Down the House-The Talking Heads)! Dazzler's speakers burst under the strain as Black Bolt and Dazzler both collapse from exhaustion. Dazzler is carried, crowd-surf style on the hands of her new adoring fans like a rock-and-roll Jesus. But much like Jesus she's had to sacrifice for her followers- her vocal chords are torn and while she can speak- she will never sing again (cue:Every Rose Has It's Thorn-Poison).

We cut to various locations around the globe where people are celebrating sunlight on their faces (somehow everyone all at the same time even though the earth's rotation does not work that way): Boston(Cue: Peace of Mind-Boston), Chicago (Cue: You're The Inspiration-Chicago), Europe (cue: The Final Countdown-Europe), Kansas City( cue: Carry on My Wayward Son-Kansas), Africa (Cue:Africa-Toto), Asia in general(Cue: Heat of The Moment-Asia), and China in particular (cue:Chinese Democracy-Guns 'N Roses), and of course all the backstreets in the world (cue: I Want It That Way-The Backstreet Boys).

The Inhumans later apologize and everyone laughs about how silly they were all acting in the face of impending apocalypse. They all join in a group hug, now closer than ever(Cue: Keep On Loving You-REO Speedwagon).

Also they defeat the Sentry who has been stricken blind by Dazzler's light show (cue: She Blinded Me With Science- Thomas Dolby). The End.
